Description

A broad-spectrum antibiotic, chemically related to penicillin. Inexpensive, but only available via prescription. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the throat, skin and soft tissues. NOTE! Cefadroxil is effective only against infections caused by bacteria; it is ineffective against those caused by viruses, fungi, or other microorganisms.

  • After surgery to prevent infection
  • Urine infections
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Secondary infections
  • Most Streptococci
  • Staphylococci

Dosage

10 mg/lb orally, twice a day, for 10 - 30 days (7)

Side Effects

  • Anaemia
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loss of appetite

Warnings

Like Amoxicillin, it does not attack Mycoplasma directly, but may kill off any secondary infection that appears along with it, allowing the immune system to get the Mycoplasma infection under control.
