Vibramycin, Vibra Tabs

Description

A synthetic analogue of a broad-spectrum antibiotic related to tetracycline, but deemed to be a better substitute and used against a wide range of susceptible organisms. It works by inhibiting the protein production in bacteria preventing them from living. It is used to treat ailments caused by bacteria. Relatively cheap, only available via prescription.

Uses

  • Mycoplasma
  • Some of the strains of Staphylococcus and Streptococci

Dosage

  • 2.5mg/lb orally, twice daily, for 14 to 30 days (7)
  • 5 mg/kg orally, twice daily, for 7 days orally (for bacterial pneumonia) (24)

Side Effects

  • Diarrhoea
  • Itching and/or abscesses around injection site
  • Could have damaging effects on the liver

Warnings

  • Do not give ANY milk products while on this antibiotic
  • Do not use in very young or pregnant animals

Enrofloxacin, Azithromycin
