Description
Oxytetracycline is primarily bacteriostatic antibiotic of the Tetracycline family. It is thought to exert its anti-microbial effect by the inhibition of protein synthesis. It is active against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive organisms.

- Wounds
- Skin infections
- Respiratory infections
- Mycoplasma
Dosage
- 0.4 mg/ml in drinking water (20)
- 10-20 mg/kg orally, three times a day (20)
- 60-100 mg/kg intramuscular injection or ordinary injection - three day long acting preparation (27)
Side Effects
- Loss of appetite
- Itching
- Anaphylaxis
Warnings
- Should not be used for streptococcal disease, as many strep strains are resistant to Tetracycline drugs.
- Not the drug of choice in the treatment of any type of staphylococcal infections.
- Do not give with any dairy products.
- Do not give to rats with kidney problems
